Melissa spent her childhood in North Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, and Texas. Living in so many regions of the USA allowed her passion for weather to grow, as she experienced many different types of weather. Her interest in meteorology as a career picked up when she participated in Science Olympiad as a teenager and spent time studying different weather concepts for the meteorology event. Melissa is currently in her senior year at Iowa State University, with plans to pursue a graduate degree in meteorology. Her research involves analyzing the ability of the ERA5 reanalysis to capture the intensity and precipitation of landfalling hurricanes.
